Battered woman in fear of manThis is the first post in what will be a short series on what Phoenix residents should expect when charged with felony domestic violence. I am writing this article as it is common for defendants to not understand the magnitude of a domestic violence charge. This lack of understanding comes from an accused person seeing the issue as a private matter between two parties. The truth, however, is that being charged with any crime alleging felony domestic violence is a very serious matter and one facing such charges should seek representation immediately.

I will be addressing several topics over my coming posts. Topics I will be looking at include:

  • The process that Phoenix residents can expect to face once they have been charged
  • The steps an attorney can take in defending one’s case
  • Dealing with false accusations
  • Mistakes that Arizona citizens should avoid after they have been charged for domestic violence

I cannot stress enough that you should immediately seek legal representation if you have been charged with this offense. An attorney can help you understand your situation. He or she will explain things to you such as how the process will work, the potential penalties and ramifications you are facing, as well as possible defenses you have. Criminal defense cases are not a “do it yourself project” and this is very much the case with domestic violence charges.

If you have been charged with felony domestic violence then contact my office today. In addition to Phoenix, we service Maricopa County areas such as Mesa, Glendale, Scottsdale, Chandler, and Gilbert as well as Pima County residents in Tucson.
